Structural design package
Steel, light-gauge steel (LGS) and timber structures, from the permit design to the construction design.
For: architects, contractors; redesigning a house permitted for masonry in steel.
For this service: Inputs — what we need · Outputs — what you receive
| # | Work item | Content |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Permit part | structural calculations, structural arrangement, technical description — coordinated with the architect |
| 2 | Construction design | plans, sections, connection details, assembly drawings |
| 3 | Steel fabrication drawings | for hot-rolled steel: element by element, with weld and bolt marks |
| 4 | Bill of materials | by section and by length |
| 5 | Structural assessment | option — an existing structure’s capacity, extension, alteration |
| 6 | Material optimisation | option — less steel in an existing design without reducing safety |
Not included: the LGS machine program — that is Fabrication design; the statutory design check — see Statutory design check or expert review?; fully monolithic reinforced concrete.
Design codes: Eurocode — steel EN 1993 (cold-formed sections: part 1-3), timber EN 1995.
- The calculations rest on B3. If loads or use change, tell us: the calculations were made on those assumptions.
- Material optimisation: a well-calculated structure uses roughly 40% less material than an over-designed one — see Why choose light-gauge steel?
- Existing designs: a house permitted for masonry is redesigned in steel at the same permit level — see Do you work with existing designs?
- Materials compared: Materials: which one for what.
