Dojo, Pilisvörösvár

ADAY Hungary Kft. · architect: Roland Lieb · 2024 · structural, fabrication design

The original idea was a carved timber structure in the Japanese tradition — but the budget could not carry it. The form stayed and the material changed: every structural element, from the walls and the floor to the roof, was built in light-gauge steel.

Architect Roland Lieb gave us an exceptionally precise IFC model — it is rare to see the tool used with such discipline. The fabrication drawings followed it curve by curve. The foundation’s building for the Dream Valley Enlightenment Stupa was built on a tight budget, and the roof forms still carry the intended style.

The machine cuts the trusses and bracing, so angles and lattices can be designed that would be disproportionately expensive to cut by hand in hot-rolled steel — see Curved geometry.
