When it is not needed
Section titled “When it is not needed”If you already have a signed structural design, the shop drawings are produced from it. The design sits in the detailed design; the shop drawings translate it into the machine’s language. Shop drawings.
Asking for a separate structural calculation then is wasted cost.
When it is needed

Section titled “If there is no structural design”Then there is no design beneath the shop drawings. That does not work: shop drawings do not replace structural design. Input data.
If somebody asks for verification
Section titled “If somebody asks for verification”An authority, a design checker, a bank, an insurer. Then we supply a structural calculation and note alongside the shop drawings.
If the structure departs from the design
Section titled “If the structure departs from the design”If it emerges during shop design that the detailed design solves something differently and the structure changes, the new state has to be verified.
What we supply then

- a technical note: material grades, restraint conditions, connection principles,
- signed, with the qualification. Qualification, signature, liability.
What we do not do
Section titled “What we do not do”We do not sell a structural design to somebody who has one. And we do not supply shop drawings without structural design to somebody who needs it — because that is the worse of the two.
Fire verification is a separate question
Section titled “Fire verification is a separate question”Fire resistance verification of the structure is not part of the structural calculation. Whether it comes from an NMÉ, an ETA or project-specific fire design has to be decided separately. When no system document is required.
The point
Section titled “The point”If you have a structural design, we will not sell you another. If you do not and you need one, we will say so — we do not put a structure into manufacture with no design beneath it.
