Plan review and redesign

When the drawings you were given look wrong. It is cheaper to have them checked now than to meet the problem on site.

Typical situations: you received another practice’s design, you are pricing it and do not understand it, something clashes during construction, or there is simply a lot of steel in it.

We go through the structural calculation, the structural arrangement and the connections. You get a written summary of what is sound and what is not.

You do not get an eighty-point list. We weight it: what is a structural risk and what merely makes it more expensive. Risk ranking.

We look at whether there is surplus material in the structure. On larger projects that item often pays for the review on its own. Material optimisation.

If the design cannot be saved, we redesign it. That can be partial — a single connection or a roof covering system — or complete. What comes after the review.

If construction is already running and the problem emerges mid-way, we can work on site too.

Design checking under the legislation is a separate role tied to a qualification, with defined formal requirements. This is not a design check.

We do not look for someone to blame. Our aim is for the structure to be sound, not to undermine a colleague. If a document is needed for legal action, we agree that separately.

The whole documentation, not two sheets — the missing sheets are where the things we would ask about show up. Send everything.

A review costs a fraction of what a fault discovered on site costs. And if the design is sound, we write that down too.
