The structural part of the permit design

To demonstrate that the building can be built in accordance with the structural requirements. Not for building from.

Its content follows from that: the structural system, the main dimensions, the conceptual solutions — not the member-by-member design. The content of the permit design.

  • a structural calculation at the level the legislation expects,
  • the structural arrangement: plans, presentation of the load-bearing system,
  • a technical description: materials, structural system, foundation type.

We stress this because a significant share of requests for missing items arises from the disciplines’ parts being produced without reference to one another: different floor levels, different wall thicknesses, different openings.

With us this is coordinated — and in general design it is a given. The permit package.

The structural principle: which material, what spans, where the bracing goes. It is born in the concept, and the permit part carries it forward. Why the concept decides the cost.

For a light gauge steel building it has to be settled here whether the structure will be a site-erected frame or prefabricated panels, because that also determines the route to fire verification. What “lightweight technology” means.

The content of the construction documentation may not depart from the final permit. If a different structural solution emerges during detailed design — a different span, a different height — the permit has to be amended.

The permit part says it can be built. How it should be built is the detailed design’s job — and the two must not be confused.
